The Spirit of Hagi Ware

For more than 370 years, Hagi ware (Hagi-yaki) has been treasured by tea practitioners for its quiet beauty, refined simplicity, and deep connection to the Japanese tea ceremony.

Its origins trace back to the early Edo period, when skilled Korean potters established the Hagi tradition in Japan. Supported by the feudal lords of Hagi, generations of artisans devoted themselves to preserving this unique ceramic art, which has since become admired throughout Japan and around the world.

The beauty of Hagi ware is revealed through use. Its soft texture, natural warmth, and delicate glaze create a comforting experience with every cup of tea. A well-known saying, "Hagi no Nanabake" (The Seven Transformations of Hagi), refers to the gentle changes in color and character that develop over time, making each piece even more beautiful as it is cherished.

No two pieces are ever alike. Every bowl, cup, and vessel reflects the individual touch of its maker and the unique character of the kiln.

A Rare Find

Each cup is a new, never-before-used vintage dead stock piece that we were fortunate to discover through artisans in Kyoto. Although these pieces were created years ago, they have been carefully preserved and have never been used.

Because they are vintage dead stock, only a very limited number are available. Once they are gone, they cannot be replaced. Each piece is truly one of a kind.
